Respect, Courtesy & Helping Each other

At Acorn Montessori School we lead with kindness.

Helping children understand how their actions make others feel. 

Growing awareness of the world around us and how we can lead with care and kindness.

Ground Rules 

These establish limits of behaviour which enable all children to move and work in   close proximity and in harmony.

- Walking in the classroom

- Talking softly and respectfully but not shout. 

- When finishing an activity, the work must be returned to the shelf in its correct place. 

-  There is only one of every activity on the shelves, meaning they have to wait patiently to use it if it not available. 

- We respect our classroom and everything and everybody in it. 

- The Montessori activities are made up of real-life materials such as brass, wood, cotton, metal, and glass. They therefore need to be treated with care by the children.

Positive Communication

Children are encouraged at all times to use their own words to communicate and are listened to by the teachers.

Teacher model correct language to children if they struggle to communicate with others in a positive way. 

We reinforce the importance of good manners on a daily basis. i.e. please, thank you, excuse me, please may I leave the table etc. 

Helping Each Other

This is encouraged throughout the school day. This can be done by helping one another put clothes on to go outside, helping with aprons for painting and collecting each other’s books in circle time. 

Dogger / Kind Kim/Kind Heart Initiatives 

Celebrating   kind, thoughtful and helpful behaviour at school by allowing the child to   take home our special ‘Dogger’ character or ‘Kind Kim’, for the night. Explaining to the class why this has been given to a particular child, and what they had done that was kind or considerate to another child.
