Respect, Courtesy & Helping Each other

 Leading with Kindness

At Acorn Montessori School, we lead with kindness, helping children understand how their actions affect others and fostering awareness of the world around them.

Ground Rules

Clear routines and expectations support children to work and move together harmoniously:

  • Walking quietly in the classroom
  • Speaking softly and respectfully.
  • Returning activities to the correct place when finished so others can use them.
  • Waiting patiently when an activity is not immediately available.
  • Respecting the classroom environment and everyone within it.
  • Handling Montessori materials, made from real-life materials such as brass, wood, cotton, metal, and glass, with care.

Positive Communication

Children are encouraged to express themselves in their own words and are always listened to by teachers. Staff model positive language when children need support and reinforce good manners daily, including phrases such as “please,” “thank you,” “excuse me,” and “may I leave the table?”

Helping Each Other

Cooperation and support are encouraged throughout the day. Children help one another with tasks such as putting on coats for outdoor play, wearing aprons for painting, or collecting books at circle time.

Dogger and Kind Kim Initiatives

Kind, thoughtful, and helpful behaviour is celebrated through our Dogger and Kind Kim initiatives. Children take home the special character for the night and share with the class why they were chosen, highlighting acts of kindness or consideration toward others.
